Preventing and Managing Overdraft Fees

At Rio Bank, our goal is to keep you informed on banking practices that give you more control over your spending and money management. We want to assist you in reducing the likelihood of overdrawing your personal checking account.  Here are some helpful tips on Preventing and Managing Overdraft Fees that will help protect you from having less declined transactions and Non-Sufficient Fund fees "NSF". Stop Payments

You can request a stop payment online (check only), by phone (check and ACH items) or by visiting a Rio
Bank nearest you and speaking with a banker.

  • To request a check stop payment log into your Online Banking. Once logged in select Account
    then click on the Stop Payment tab | Add Stop Payment next you’ll need the following.
    • Check Number
    • Amount
    • Payee
  • To place stop payments for a check or ACH item via phone please call 956-631-7890. Please
    have the following information available when speaking to a banker:
    • Checks - Please provide the Name of Payee, Account Number, Paper item number or
      range of paper item numbers, Paper item date and Amount of item.
    • ACH items – Please provide the Company Name, Account Number, ACH Merchant ID
      and/or Company ID (can be found by reviewing a previous transaction) and Amount of item.

More information about stop payments

  • The stop payment will remain in effect for six months for checks and indefinitely or until withdrawn by
    receiver for ACH items. To remove a stop payment, please call 956-631-7890 or visit a local store.
  • There is a $35.99 stop payment fee.
  • There is no fee for placing stop payments on lost or stolen blank checks.
  • Placing a stop payment order does not release you from any contractual agreements. You may still be
    held to the terms of the agreement.
All Stop Payment requests on a pre-authorized transfer must be received by Rio Bank at least three (3) business days
before the payment is scheduled to be made. Once placed, Stop Payment orders remain effective for six (6) months from
the date authorized. You can place another stop payment order for an additional six months when the expiration date
arrives. Unfortunately, Stop Payment requests on checks are not effective if, either before or within 24 hours from the time
when the stop payment was requested, Rio Bank cashes the check or has become otherwise legally obligated for its
payment. Rio Bank will assume no responsibility if any information provided is incorrect or incomplete and would cause the
check or pre-authorized payment or transfer order tbe paid (i.e., incorrect check number, date, account number, or invalid
